Excerpt: Paul Rudd made a startling jump from Drama to comedy, I still think people remembers him by the name Paul Stephen Rudd and his roles in The Great Gatsby and The Cider House Rules, to grope even further he was in the sixth Halloween movie, it was quite unlikely that he would hit success with Comedy in the end. Jason Segal had been a comic actor from the beginning and has been tickling our funny bonne for a long time. Except a few appearances in CSI we all remember him as the rockaholic teen Nick Andopolis in Paul Freig and Freaks and Geeks. Excerpt: Harrison Ford doesn’t move as swiftly as Indy in his thriller “Firewall,” but he proves that, at 63, he can still play the action hero. “Firewall” is not thought-provoking; it’s a good old-fashioned action movie with all the right ingredients. Speeding cars, shattering glass, intense fight sequences and fiery explosions—and Ford is in the middle of it all. Ford plays Seattle banker Jack Stanfield, vice president of security, who is forced to hack into the security system he built to fork over $100 million to the bad guys who are holding his family hostage. Virginia Madsen is Jack’s architect wife Beth, who holds it together and falls apart beautifully at just the right times. Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe on the TV show “24”) shines as Jack’s assistant, a key player in many of the comedic moments. The criminal mastermind, Bill Cox, is played by Paul Bettany, who clearly practiced his villainous beady-eyed stare for weeks. Director Richard Loncraine, who set up the love match between Bettany and Kirsten Dunst in “Wimbledon,” gets the action rolling from the opening credits. A few scenes reveal that the Stanfields have been—and are still being—stalked. When the movie begins, the viewer is watching the family through the eyes of the enemies. During its 105 minutes, the movie goes from suspenseful to intense to really intense. Excerpt: In “Swing Vote,” Kevin Costner plays Bud Johnson, a newly unemployed factory worker whose well intentioned young daughter, Molly (Madeline Carroll), insists that he vote in the presidential election. The movie starts out with Bud going out on election nite, getting drunk and passing out. Not being able to get to the polling station, Molly decides to illegally cast a vote in Bud’s name, at which point the voting machine malfunctions. Bud’s cast vote is thus not counted and becomes the deciding vote in the nations most hotly contested election. The thing is, Costner, is not too good at playing dumb. An underrated actor whose all-American good looks always seem to be hiding the talents of intelligence and reserve. Costner comes across as much too self-aware to be playing this ballcap-wearing, belly-scratching nimrod. Think back to the movies, “The Upside of Anger” and “Mr. Brooks.” In all actuality, Costner appears to be about 10 years too old for this role, and you left asking if they just couldn’t find someone younger. Other problems have to do with the movies character who supposedly doesn’t know the difference between pro choice, and pro life. He doesn’t even know who’s running. But when NASCAR legend Richard Petty shows up outside his door to campain for the Republican candidate, Bud looks like a little kid who just got a pony at Christmas. Excerpt: So what is it that I want to believe? This summer’s release of the second installment to the X-Files movie has been highly anticipated? I’m sure it has been for all of the diehard X-Files fans, but honestly, I then see very much buzz about the movie coming out. Especially up against the release of the smash hits the Dark Knight, and Iron Man I was wondering who really remembered what the X-Files was about. Now I do have to admit that I am not an X-Files and and I did not watch the show on TV, but I did see the first movie. Now, talking about hype, this movie was very tightlipped, very hush-hush and industry really pushed to try to get people really buzzing to try to find out what was going on with the next installment? the thing is, if you’re going to be this hush-hush about a movie and really try to create a buzz around it but you better deliver… And this X-Files episode, though stocked with lots of special effects and here he sets, pretty much comes up empty handed. The second X-Files movie following The X-Files: Fight the Future a decade ago, though not a sequel, is really just a hodgepodge of different storylines.
